From the former Soviet Republic of Georgia, Luger crashed into an unprotected steel pole. While live when medical staff reached him and while being airlifted, he succumbed to internal injuries this afternoon...mere hours before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.
Sad, sad turn of events.
This comes as many critics have said that the Canadian Olympic Committee has made the situation at the Games 'too competitive' and that this particular luge track was 'the fastest in the world' was TOO dangerous. Turns out, they were sadly right.
