They problem, according to said study, isn't that there aren't enough science students...but that the students don't go into science/tech jobs. Many are taking MIS-like degree enhancers and going into business. Until corporations need to pay science/tech employees better than the managers who manage them...many of the best and brightest techies will go to the bigger salary, not to the job we need them in. And with more and more tech students, there is lower demand...and therefore, lower wages for those tech jobs. Catch-22 much?
