Awesome: First official 'rolling stone' video is AMAZING

This is really freaking cool. You just have to try it and listen. Change the 'channel' on the left. Every channel is a different lip synced version of the song. Pawn Stars, Price is Right, Sportscenter and a bunch of others.

News: Omni-directional treadmill allows you to walk in game

This is exactly what we have all been waiting for. When you play, you use a joystick to move the character in game. This treadmill will allow virtual reality gaming where you actually walk around. Jumping is still button based, but a pretty good step forward I think.

I just hope I don't jump through the thing.

Cool: Chess boxing

Yes. It's a real thing. Yes. It would be an easy assumption that I would be good at such a thing. Saldy, I am not very good at chess and even worse at boxing. Getting punched in the nose SUCKS.

Citing health and old age. Wasn't he already old? Was he hoping to have a short stint and take the long box out? Now it's gone on too long and feel guilty about having the job? Odd.

News: Consumer Electronics Show ditches CNET after CBS scandal

From the article: The once beloved and suddenly beleaguered tech-review site CNET will no longer select the official Best in Show awards at the Consumer Electronics Show because of its ethically questionable situation with parent company CBS, which censored CNET's top award at CES and subsequently invented a conflict-of-interest policy based solely on the interests of CBS.

News: Retailers start passing credit card surcharge to consumers

Not sure why I care so much about the credit card process. But, I do.

Credit card retailers charge merchants a percentage of the transaction (plus a flat cent fee). Starting today, merchants can now pass this percentage fee on to the customers who use credit cards.

This is rather unfortunate, though somewhat inevitable. Maybe this will discourage some people from using credit cards and get them back to debt-free cash? Which is bad for me, since I would REALLY like to get to the cashless system.

When will the government start its own credit card processor, one that's fee-less? You decide to regulate everything else based on the commerce clause...how about you regulate ACTUAL commerce?

News: JJ Abrams, new Star Trek director, to direct new Star Wars

Yeah. WTF.

I mean, it wasn't that good to begin with.

Having not seen the newest Star Trek (or, really, any of them), I can only go on what I've heard. And, I've heard that JJ is all about flashy action with no heart. That doesn't sound like Star Wars. The whole franchise is built on the story and personal relationships and fault lines between characters. Unless you count the Star Wars prequels I guess...which were bad. But, I guess if you want to repeat that 'success', he's the right guy.

Obit: Aaron Swartz, Coder and Activist (Wired)

Sad: Computer activist Aaron Swartz committed suicide

He was indicted for mass-downloading documents from JSTOR, a massive online journal of academic papers. He fought against the system of hiding intellectual knowledge behind a paywall, despite the research being paid for with public monies.

He also happens to have created the RSS 1.0 specification and was an early co-owner of Reddit, a popular online community news site. He truly stood for letting the world be smarter than it was...and left it dumber without his presence in it.
